Orchestra Auditions

*Have a great time playing exciting music with other dedicated young musicians from all over the San Antonio area.
*Perform numerous concerts conducted by leading music educators, including at least one performance in the renowned Tobin Center for Performing Arts.
*Enjoy sectional coaching from experienced music educators and professional musicians of the San Antonio Philharmonic.
*Make lifelong friends and memories with musicians from all over the San Antonio area while further developing your skills and talents.

At YOSA, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse group of like-minded young musicians who are passionate, hard-working, and ready to learn. We challenge YOSA musicians to achieve beyond their expectations.

YOSA’s full orchestras include woodwind, brass, percussion, harp, and piano players in addition to string players. String orchestras are only for string players (violin, viola, cello, and bass).

* All string players ages 8-20 with at least one year of experience on violin, viola, cello, or bass.
* Flute players ages 8-20 with at least one year of experience.
* All other woodwind, brass, percussion, and harp players ages 13-20 with at least two years of experience.
* Participation in your school music program is mandatory.
* Home-schooled students are welcome.

Auditions will be held in person at San Pedro Presbyterian Church (14900 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio, TX 78232) May 31, 2025 - June 3, 2025. You can register for your audition here.

Audition results will be announced early summer 2025 through email.

There is no fee to audition. Once placed in an orchestra after audition, tuition varies depending on the orchestra.

Yes. YOSA is committed to making our activities accessible for families, regardless of financial constraints. Financial aid is offered at the beginning of each season based on a family’s income, household size, and other family or financial circumstances. Families can expect strict confidentiality regarding their assistance application and results. Every effort will be made to meet the needs of young musicians and their families.

Rehearsals for the 2025/26 season begin in late August on Sundays. Rehearsal locations are:

Every audition is carefully considered for placement in the appropriate YOSA orchestra that will advance the musician in a stimulating environment. Once you have been placed in a YOSA orchestra, we highly recommend resolving any scheduling conflicts. If conflicts can’t be resolved, please contact the YOSA office at (210) 737-0097 or email auditions@yosa.org.

Yes. YOSA will provide large percussion instruments.

For the 2025/26 season, we plan for each YOSA Orchestra to perform in three major concerts and the season-finale concert, YOSApalooza. The YOSA Philharmonic will also participate in additional concerts throughout the season. Concert schedules are subject to change.
