What to Expect

1. Schedule Your Audition

Who is Eligible?

  • All string players ages 8-20 with at least one year of experience on violin, viola, cello, or bass.

  • Flute players ages 8-20 with at least one year of experience.

  • All other woodwind, brass, percussion, and harp players ages 13-20 with at least two years of experience.

  • Participation in your school music program is mandatory, if your school has a program for your instrument.

  • Home-schooled students are welcome.

Please email registration@yosa.org to schedule an audition after May 31, 2024.

2. Practice Your Audition Music

3. Attend Your Audition

  • Auditions took place at San Pedro Presbyterian Church in June 2024. Musicians enter at the sanctuary and check in with a YOSA Staff member. See map here. Musicians will audition in the order they arrive and finish within their audition hour.

  • Musicians will tune and warm up in a common space where they can leave their belongings. They will be escorted to their audition room.

  • When musicians enter the audition room, they will be greeted by two judges. They may ask you a little about yourself or your experience. Then, musicians will play their audition excerpts and sightread.

  • After their audition, musicians will be escorted back to the common waiting area.

Audition Results

Audition results and placement acceptance instructions will be emailed to families 1-3 weeks after auditions using the email that was provided when you signed up for your audition.

YOSA Summer Symphony Camp

Musicians who participate in season auditions can enroll in Summer Symphony Camp as late as 2 days before camp starts. Musicians who participate in Summer Symphony Camp can use their camp audition for the season, and can also enroll in YOSA Orchestras until September 1, 2024.

The following sessions DO NOT require an audition:
Exploring Music for Elementary Students, Elementary Strings, Mariachi, Composition Seminar, Jazz and Big Band, and Steel Drum.
