2024 YOSA Germany Tour

In June 2024, YOSA will embark on a tour to Germany, performing concerts in Berlin, Leipzig, and Darmstadt. YOSA musicians from the YOSA Philharmonic, Symphony, and Wind Ensemble will have the chance to perform in and visit cities where composers like Bach and Mendelssohn lived and worked.


YOSA Tour Rehearsals

Rehearsals in San Antonio are required for all touring musicians June 12-15, at Alamo Heights High School.
Wednesday, June 12, 2024: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Thursday, June 13, 2024: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Friday, June 14, 2024: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 15, 2024: 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Sunday, June 16 – SAN ANTONIO to BERLIN
We will begin our European journey traveling by bus to Austin, where we will board an international flight to Berlin, Germany’s capital which dates back to the 13th century.

Monday, June 17 – BERLIN
Upon arrival in Berlin, enjoy an orientation tour of the city en route to our hotel. Popular sights in Berlin include its 18th-century Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of reunification, as well as modern landmarks like the Berliner Philharmonie, built in 1963. Dinner and overnight in Berlin.

Tuesday, June 18 – BERLIN
A sightseeing tour will include a cruise on the Spree River, passing the main sights of Berlin such as Potsdamer Platz, the Reichstag, Museum Island, Berlin Dome, and more. In the evening we will perform a concert in Berlin. Dinner and overnight in Berlin.

Wednesday, June 19 – POTSDAM & LEIPZIG
Travel from Berlin to Leipzig will include a stop en route in Potsdam to visit Sanssouci Palace, the summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. Continue to Leipzig for dinner and overnight.

Thursday, June 20 – LEIPZIG
A sightseeing tour of Leipzig will include a visit to the St. Thomaskirche, the Lutheran church where Bach was cantor. In the evening we will perform a concert at the Leipzig Gewandhaus. Dinner and overnight in Leipzig.

Friday, June 21 – EISENACH & FRANKFURT
Travel from Leipzig to Frankfurt will include a stop en route at Wartburg Castle in Eissenach, where Martin Luther translated the New Testament from Ancient Greek to German. Continue to Frankfurt for dinner and overnight.

Saturday, June 22 – FRANKFURT & DARMSTADT
After a sightseeing tour of Frankfurt, we will visit Darmstadt, San Antonio's sister city, where we will perform an evening concert. Dinner is included in Darmstadt before returning to Frankfurt for overnight.

Sunday, June 23 – FRANKFURT & HEIDELBERG
An excursion to Heidelberg will include a visit to Heidelberg Castle, one of the most famous historical monuments in Germany. The ruins rise majestically on the site of a medieval castle complex, high above the old town. Return to Frankfurt for a farewell dinner and overnight.

Monday, June 24 – FRANKFURT to SAN ANTONIO
We will return from Frankfurt to the USA with lifelong memories of sharing our culture and exploring the rich musical legacy of Germany.
